How is kmart better than walmart
Successful companies develop a system of a few truly unique capabilities that help them create differentiated value for their chosen customers. Retailers provide many case studies in capabilities-driven success, one of the most compelling of which is the big discounter triad of Walmart, Target and Kmart.
And in this fourth-quarter retail season, we thought it would be helpful to take a closer look at what really distinguishes these competitors because they provide valuable insight into the key components of a winning corporate strategy.
We believe that all successful companies — Walmart and Target included — know precisely how they provide value for customers. They then select a set of products and services that best leverage those unique capabilities and optimally suit their chosen way to play. They have an online catalogue that you can pore over; if you want to buy an item, just click it on to add to your shopping cart and check out.
I too am a Target junkie. I know they give alot to the Republican party, but who doesn't? I work at a Walmart location which isn't the greatest. I think Kmart is better.
I have 2 cats and they got out of the vet and I went to WalFart as I call it and they told me to leave the cats in the car and it was over degrees outside. I went a few miles down the road to Kmart and they let the cats inside the store no problem! Why people keep bashing Kmart is quite beyond me. While I think Kmart, Target, and Walmart each have their own strengths, my favorite is Kmart, followed by Target, and I avoid Walmart if at all possible.
Kmart is my favorite because:. They're frequently cheaper than Walmart and Target. Don't believe me? Do some comparison shopping, pay attention to the quantities, and look at the store brands, which at Kmart are often superior to the regular brands. Where they really shine is on clothing, groceries, and home goods, though they'll frequently beat the competition in the other departments whenever items go on sale. They're more 'fun' than the other two, from their free rewards program to their blue light specials and their overall cheerful and informal vibe.
Go to their website and their stores to see what I mean- it's the antithesis of the utilitarian warehouse vibe of Walmart. They have better products. Kmart is the only big-box store with exclusive designer clothing brands, like the Adam Levine collection, which is easily comparable to and sometimes mistaken for Hollister, Vans, or American Eagle but at a fraction of the price.
As I said earlier, their other store brands are often better than the name brands. There are also name brands that only sell at Kmart, like the "as seen on tv" aisle in their stores. Their website also sells products from online vendors, just like Amazon or Ebay.
In fact, you can even sell your own products on Kmart. There's less hassle. You rarely have to scour a crowded parking lot and park a mile away when visiting their stores, and "hot" items like back-to-school supplies and seasonal clothing don't get picked over before you can get to them. You never have to wait in a long checkout line. Many locations offer a free service called Shoparazzi where someone does all your shopping for you, including at other stores, and all you have to do is pick it up at the Kmart.
Target, while often the most expensive of the three, does a pretty good job of making its stores seem more 'premium', even though the products they sell are seldom any better. They have sales, which is more than can be said of Walmart, but they're usually not as good as the ones at Kmart. Walmart is open 24 hours at most locations, which is its biggest redeeming quality. Other customer-friendly adoptions were layaway and store credit cards, Nisch said. But by , Walmart had surpassed Kmart as the second-largest retailer in the United States behind Sears.
In the decade prior, Kmart had shifted its focus to purchasing other chains such as Builders Square, Borders books and Sports Authority — all of which have gone defunct. The investments left Kmart stores "flailing. They were at a point where they could never catch up again.
Kmart's profitability and sales peaked in and its store count hit 2, in , but competition was growing with Walmart, Target and soon internet shopping.
The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in , emerging a year later with ESL as the majority owner. While the company made some efforts to reinvigorate stores, revive Blue Light Specials and encourage Sears' Shop Your Way loyalty program, stores continued to shutter. Profitable quarters were rare and it sold off assets such as Craftsman tools. The original Garden City Kmart store closed in The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in October with Lampert's ESL as the only bidder looking to buy the company.
Kmart is one of the saddest retail stories. Sears has stores in Livonia and Westland Shopping Center. The Sears location in Novi's Twelve Oaks Mall is closing , joining numerous other big-box vacancies across the country. Twelve Oaks owner Taubman Centers Inc. Its departure opens up opportunities for attractions, restaurants and other concepts to take over that space, she said. The company, however, does not anticipate filling the vacancy this year. Meanwhile, Kmart's ,square-foot former headquarters in Troy remains empty after more than 12 years.
Kresge had moved to the building at W. Big Beaver in Southfield-based Forbes Co.
