We also move fluidly between vocal-driven songs, and pure instrumentals, which I think gives us both a creative freedom that we were missing in previous projects. Kunzite finds a home in Wilder, a new singles label collaboration from Windish Agency founder Tom Windish now with Paradigm and Australian taste-maker label Future Classic.

Growing in success, Ratatat supported the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Interpol and Battles on a number of tour dates, before catching the attention of XL Records. Their self-titled debut album arrived shortly after, an entirely instrumental record, before then performing with post-rock experimentalists,!!!
In , "Classics" their second effort, hit the shelves, sandwiched between two self-released remix albums from the duo. For their third release, Ratatat changed their sound, favoring live percussion and keyboards over their electronic beats and scuzzy guitars, helping to refresh the band's energy.
Live performances followed, whilst a number of Ratatat singles were featured on various commercials. Their single, "Loud Pipes," originally released in , found Ratatat a hit in Austria, after it featured in an advertisement for the network provider, A1.
Five years since their fourth album, anticipation for new material gathered, as the band promised a new album in New York duo Ratatat consists of Mike Stroud and Evan Mast and despite not having achieved a huge amount of commerciality, the two are on their way to becoming one of the most prolific live acts due to the surrealist elements of their live shows. The lights fade on the stage and the crowd cheer manically, the room is mixed with feelings of both excitement and nerves as the majority of the audience are not sure what to expect, they have just been told it will probably be quite weird.
Staying true to perceptions, the duo take their positions and instantly a mirage of reflected parrots appear behind their heads and move slowly during 'Loud Pipes' and 'Grape Fruit City'. The most bizarre moment is definitely the airing of the video to 'Drugs' which features stock footage of humans doing general things yet when placed against the surrealist electro it is frightfully unnerving.
Ratatat, the act that must be seen to be believed. Read more. Report as inappropriate. Amazing show! I've been a fan of the duo forever, and I've never seen them live before the show in Bangkok.
They played several popular tunes from their newest album, and mixed in plenty of older beats as well. My favorite part was the digital display and light show in the background next to the music of course. Evan Mast produces and edits all of the digital videography for their performances which I believe makes their shows that much more enjoyable and authentic.
The venue was the perfect size for the audience to enjoy the well planned set list without crowds of people, so the whole general environment was awesome as well. These guys played as well, as loud and as hard as they could without stopping and without disappointing.
The venue was great, I never had been there before and the sound was fantastic. The crowd was super cool and nice, which doesn't happen very often anymore, made some friends in there even. I said "Wow" aloud probably two dozen times.
I'm so happy I finally got to see them live Theirs was one of the first albums I purchased for my newly acquired record player. Happy birthday to me. Wouldn't have gone hard on a Wednesday night for anyone else. That was a legendary show in general for both bands. Having seen them in both large and small venues, they have a quality show that could be described as "headbanging electronic music. Crisp live performances and just an overall fun vibe every time.
Can't wait for the new album and tour dates! I've been listening to Ratatat for years and decided to buy tickets after my friend told me they were in town. I wasn't sure what to expect because they have such a unique sound with no lyrics, but the show was so spectacular. I could've danced to electronic guitar and lasers all night! Unfortunately the concert ended at because it was a Tuesday night, but that was probably for the best.
I would and will totally see them again. This was a fun show; they did fabulous work bringing their music to life. This performance was definitely worth the money and I would love to see them again in the future. I really enjoyed the special effects too. My only suggestion would be to bring a drummer on stage to bring that part of the music more to life, though, I understand the constraints and what makes that a challenge to do. What a great show! The lights were amazing and the stage presence solid.
The bass was a bit too loud and tended to drown out the guitars and keyboards which are the heart and soul of their music. Unfortunately maybe a bad sound guy. But overall, glad I went and got a chance to see one of my favorite groups. They played some 'Classics', and some newer things I hadn't heard that I wasn't crazy about. Sound was great, mixing and instrumentation A.
It was a last minute find that they were on tour in Chicago and so I was so excited. Naturally Riviera was super hot but the music made up for it. Hot Sugar opened for them.
